Teeth Cleanings & Exams

Teeth Cleanings Exams Dentistry Grand Rapids Dentis

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends dental visits at least twice per year. Regular exams and professional teeth cleanings can help to ensure optimal oral health.

Our team consistently provides high-quality dental cleanings and thorough preventive exams.

Why Teeth Cleanings are Important

Professional cleanings rid the teeth of harmful plaque and tartar buildup. This is important for preventing tooth decay, periodontal disease, and other issues.

Additionally, a professional cleaning by our hygienist may remove some surface stains. This can help keep your teeth looking whiter and brighter.

What to Expect

First, our dental hygienist will examine the inside of your mouth. If they detect any obvious issues, they'll flag down Dr. Nichols for further instruction. Otherwise, they'll go onto the next step.

The hygienist will use a dental tool called a scaler to gently remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. They'll then polish, floss, and rinse your teeth. We offer several different flavors of tooth polish and will ask you to choose your favorite.

During your examination, we will also:

  • Evaluate your overall oral health
  • Discuss oral hygiene practices and habits
  • Check your bite and jaw for any issues
  • Evaluate your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer
  • Evaluate existing tooth restorations
  • Take dental X-rays if necessary

Regular dental cleanings and exams are essential for maintaining a healthy beautiful smile. As a final step, Dr. Nichols will examine your digital dental X-rays and the inside of your mouth.

If he detects any issues, he'll recommend treatment options to restore your smile. Dr. Nichols will also answer any questions you may have about your dental hygiene and health.
